CD's

Snow Patrol
Final Straw

Snow Patrol's 1st release in the United States is the band's third CD and their best so far. The hit singles "Run" and "Spitting Games" are on this disc and the vibe that is given off from these songs is present throughout the rest of the album.

The tracks include:

1. How to be Dead 2. Wow 3. Gleaming Auction

4. Whatever's Left 5. Spitting Games 6. Chocolate

7. Run 8. Grazed Knees 9. Ways & Means

10. Tiny Little Fractures

11. Somewhere a Clock is Ticking 12. Same

Clever lyrics combined with simple guitar make for a great sound. Hearing that phrase may bring Green Day or Blink 182 to mind, well I hope it does. If you feel that way then you will also come to the realization that Snow Patrol is going to be big. Green Day and Blink 182 have been ragged on for a long time for how simple their music is, I however, have no problem with it. I don't feel that the simplicity or the ease of play it should be referred to is a problem, but more of a gift. To be able to make hit after hit with fairly simple riffs or show that they are infact as clever as the lyrics that the bands write.

Sorry for the digression. All in all, Snow Patrol's, Final Straw is a great albulm. Filled with clever, emotional lyrics and with a great sounding instrumental side, this band is sure to impress.

Look for the coming reviews on the bands previous two albums.

Concerts

FNX BEST MUSIC POLL
THE KILLERS, INTERPOL, LOUIS XIV, ROBBERS ON HIGH STREET

It was a warm evening in early June, and as the sun finished its cycle and set, the energy of the concert went up with each band's set. Every band present from opening act Robbers On High Street to headliner The Killers put on a solid performance. The crisp clean sound of Robbers on High Street, the intense solos and rythmic guitar of Louis XIV, the energetic Interpol, and fan favorites The Killers, all made for a great night on the edge of Boston Harbor, at the Bank of America Pavillion.

The Killers played a fast paced set that seemed to end too quickly. That is a good problem to have at a concert however, where a band is just so good that they leave you wanting more at its conclusion, which is exactly what happened when the band left the stage. The band used bantering to introduce some of their songs, which was a nice touch, and was sometimes a tease as to what the had to offer next. They did not, however, tease at the end of their set. When they were finished, they were done. They did not come back out for an encore, which has become almost a modern day tradition with rock music. They may have also played their songs in an inappropriate order, with all of their well known songs played with more songs remaining in the set. The Killers also tried out a new song, which went over really well and seems to have the same hit potential, as Somebody Told Me, and Mr. Brightside. All in all, the performance was great, although they may need work on the order of songs when compiling a set list. Next time you get the chance though, check them out, always a great time.
